Hannah Lawicki is a textile artist based in Ocean Grove, Victoria. Her practice is rooted in the botanical dyeing traditions passed down from her mother, Julie Millerick — a textile artist and educator with over four decades of experience. Under Julie’s guidance, Hannah has developed a distinctive approach that blends inherited wisdom with a contemporary eye, giving new life to age-old methods.
Drawing from the natural world, Hannah works primarily with foraged and garden-grown plant materials to create one-of-a-kind textiles on natural fibres such as silk and cotton. Her process is grounded in the principles of slow craft, natural chemistry, and seasonal responsiveness. Each piece is a quiet collaboration between maker and environment — shaped by the subtleties of time, place, and plant life.
At the heart of this practice is a deep respect for ecology, sustainability, and tradition. The studio operates with a commitment to minimal environmental impact, thoughtful sourcing, and the celebration of imperfection. Rather than chasing uniformity, Hannah embraces variation and unpredictability as integral to the work — a philosophy that honours both the material and the moment.
This is more than textile work — it is an ongoing dialogue between generations, landscapes, and the stories we wear. Every piece tells a tale, shaped by the land it comes from and the hands that make it.
